Housing People Who Use Drugs (PWUDs) Series: Section 8 Housing and Criminal Justice-Involved PWUDs
On May 5, 2022, NASTAD's Drug User Health team hosted "Section 8 Housing and Criminal Justice-Involved PWUD," the final webinar in NASTAD's five-part webinar series, "Housing People Who Use Drugs (PWUDs)." This webinar discussed barriers to housing access due to previous criminal justice involvement and housing loss due to recent criminal justice involvement. We were joined by Margaret Bordeaux, the Justice-Involved Overdose Prevention Specialist at the North Carolina Division of Public Health, and Frankie Roberts, Executive Director of Leading Into New Communities, Inc. (LINC, Inc.), in Wilmington, North Carolina.
The Housing People Who Use Drugs (PWUDs) Webinar Series focuses on the complexities and considerations of providing housing services for people who are in active drug use and experiencing housing instability. The webinar topics include cultural competence when housing people who use drugs (PWUD), program models for housing PWUD, federal funding for housing, and Section 8 barriers when working with PWUD involved in the criminal legal system. Each webinar includes speakers from harm reduction organizations and other service agencies working with PWUD from across the country.
The webinar series began on January 5, 2022, and reconvened on the first Wednesday of every month from 3:00 to 4:00 PM ET through May 4, 2022. All recordings from this webinar series can be found on NASTAD’s "Housing People Who Use Drugs" resource page.
