Building A Sustainable Future for Harm Reduction Funding Series: I Want Money, Honey: Grant Writing 101
On June 22, 2022, NASTAD, in partnership with AIDS United, hosted "I Want Money, Honey: Grant Writing 101," part one of the four-part webinar series, Building A Sustainable Future for Harm Reduction Funding. In this session, participants learned about the basics of grant writing including preparation, key components of grants, common documents required, and supplementary information. Participants also learned about organizing and preparing items in advance to be ready for emerging funding opportunities.

- Navigating the Harm Reduction Landscape: A Guide for State, Federal, and Private Funding – This resource document was developed by NASTAD to assist a variety of harm reduction programs — ranging from small-scale grassroots organizations to larger harm reduction programs — with navigating the funding landscape and fulfilling the requirements laid out in grant proposals and their application process.
- Catchafire – A volunteer-based program that some local-based nonprofits have used to assist with grant writing skills.
- National Harm Reduction TA Center - The National Harm Reduction Technical Assistance Center (NHRTAC) provides free help to anyone in the country providing (or planning to provide) harm reduction services to their community. This may include syringe services programs, health departments, programs providing treatment for substance use disorder, as well as prevention and recovery programs.
- UpWork – Upwork assist companies in meeting their needs. They provide a variety of services from salary negotiations, grant writing, mock interviews, and other organizational development strategies.
As part of the National Harm Reduction Technical Assistance Center, the Building A Sustainable Future for Harm Reduction Funding webinar series aims to build capacity within SSPs and community-based organizations to apply for various funding opportunities. The series explores aspects of grant writing, funding sources, data and reporting, and the complex funding landscape. Participants will learn about navigating funding opportunities and gain tools on developing strong grant proposals. Participants will also learn about creative collaborations across jurisdictions, braided funding models, and innovative ways to leverage diverse funding streams.
