Job Description: The Tennessee Department of Health's (TDH) HIV Program is seeking a dedicated individual to serve as Director, HIV Prevention. This role is responsible for overseeing and administering the entire portfolio of HIV Prevention activities supported by TDH and our community-based organization partners statewide. In addition to leading an internal team of eleven direct and shared staff, this role will also be responsible for maintaining strong relationships with a wide variety of external stakeholders, including our CBO partners, metro Health Department leadership, and the United Way of Middle TN. The successful candidate will be supervised by and work closely with the Director, HIV Programs, to facilitate optimal integration between the HIV Prevention, HIV Care (Ryan White Part B), and HIV Surveillance teams. HIV Prevention also partners closely with other programs in the HIV/STI/Viral Hepatitis section, all within the Communicable and Environmental Diseases and Emergency Preparedness (CEDEP) Division of TDH.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of core HIV prevention activities, including HIV testing, condom distribution, capacity building, high-impact HIV Prevention programming, PrEP services, and linkage to care/reengagement in HIV care.
  • Provide support to Director, HIV Programs, to facilitate monitoring HIV Prevention Coalition (network of six regional community-based organizations delivering HIV Prevention services statewide) and metro health department HIV prevention grant budgets and associated contracts.
  • Enhance customer-focused service to support HIV program by developing effective ways of gathering, assessing, and acting upon feedback from key stakeholder groups.
  • Work closely with HIV Strategy Team to develop, design, implement, and assess new tools and strategies developed by this team to improve communication and collaboration between HIV Prevention, HIV Care, and HIV Surveillance teams.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in public health, social work, community development, or a related field. NOTE: Ten plus years of leadership experience in HIV may be substituted for educational requirement.
  • Experience with community-based organizations and stakeholder coordination.
  • Knowledge of TN-specific HIV landscape preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders effectively.
  • Functional understanding of HIV epidemiology and the ability to analyze and apply HIV surveillance data to direct, monitor, and adapt HIV prevention activities.
  • Experience managing large, complex grants.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to lead a diverse, dedicated team of professionals through a series of strategic changes designed to improve HIV Prevention services statewide, foster optimized communications between three HIV teams, and improve team member job satisfaction.

Salary: The monthly salary for this position is based on education and experience, with a minimum starting rate of $6,383.00 per month.
