Viral Hepatitis Testing: Strategies for Assessing Laboratories Toolkit

Last Updated

Assessing the practices of laboratories performing testing for viral hepatitis infection can assist health departments in advancing expansion of viral hepatitis testing, improving engagement and continuity of care to treat and cure viral hepatitis, and strengthening public health surveillance by providing foundational knowledge to inform health communication, education, training, and technical assistance activities.

The purpose of this toolkit is to support viral hepatitis program staff in identifying key laboratory staff to assess, key domains to include in the assessment, and methodologies for performing the assessment in line with activities supporting CDC PS21-2103 Objective 2.1.2. Other supporting topics include considerations for additional domains to assess, dissemination of results, and responding to challenges and barriers faced by laboratories implementing hepatitis testing and special consideration is given to assessing HCV reflex testing laboratory practices.

In addition to the toolkit, other resources include examples of laboratory assessments by different jurisdictions and HepTAC Virtual Learning Collaborative webinars. This page will be updated with new information and resources as they become available.
